VIDEO: Susan Kihika entangled in sibling rivalry: Woe voters against her gubernatorial bid

A video of Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika’s step-sisters disowning her on camera went viral on Friday, August 5.

In the clip, the duo, Peris Njoki and Carolyne Wanjiku, urged the county’s residents not to elect their kin arguing that she is not dependable.

Peris, who has served time in jail, further pointed her woes to Kihika claiming that she was first arrested by police due to her influence.

“My name is Peris Njoki Kihika, the current Senator is my step-sister. I am here to ask you not to vote for her for she has frustrated me since 2013.

“She uprooted my maize and took me to jail in 2015 June where I spent 16 days. The case was, however, thrown out,”

stated Njoki.

Wanjiku, on the other hand, argued that the Senator, who is seeking to unseat Governor Lee Kinyanjui in the upcoming election, frustrated the family and is dragging the Ksh600 million wealth distribution among members.

She claimed that every time the extended family makes a decision, the Senator uses her influence to derail the efforts.

“Susan has frustrated us as a family which is why, to date, we have never divided the wealth. She always interferes. We cannot trust her in leadership because she will frustrate you citizens. We as a family support Governor Lee Kinyanjui,”

she explained.

Kenyans.co.ke attempts to reach Kihika for comment were met with silence since her mobile phone was not going through.

The family has been embroiled in the property tussle for more than a decade following the death of the family patriarch and the former Nakuru North Member of Parliament, Dickson Kihika Kimani.

In 2019, the case was forwarded to court pitting the politician’s 41 children, most of whom want a share of their father’s wealth.

Njoki was sentenced to jail after claims emerged that she had assaulted her sister Carolyne Wanjiku in 2015.

The High Court in Nakuru quashed her conviction on the basis that the trial magistrate had erred in convicting Njoki without watertight evidence.

The Judge explained that the prosecution’s evidence pointed to a fight rather than an assault, which she had been convicted of.

DP Ruto’s allies express discontent over huge number of cops deployed in Ruto’s backyard

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies have come out to fault a decision by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to deploy more security officers in his perceived strongholds.

This is after the CS announced that security would be beefed up in Nakuru, Eldoret, Kuresoi and Molo areas ahead of August 9 polls.

“Ridiculous! Matiangi’s goal is to create tension in Nakuru, which is peaceful. There is no justification for deploying General Service Unit (GSU) officers to Molo & Kuresoi,”

Kihika claimed.

The outspoken senator further accused Matiang’i of being used by the government to intimidate the residents in areas where UDA enjoys a massive following in a bid to stop them from exercising their civil right to vote on August 9.

She opined that deploying officers just because of the inflammatory leaflets circulating in the region-which the Kenya Kwanza brigade has sensationally linked to Matiang’i and PS Karanja Kibicho -was unnecessary.

“His intention is to suppress the vote in our strongholds. The same individuals behind the inciting leaflets are using them as an excuse to deploy GSU! Shameless!”

Kihika ranted.

In an earlier statement, Matiang’i explained that the decision which had been approved by the National Security Council was made based on an assessment that revealed the regions were vulnerable to violence.

“Police have got eight suspects in custody in connection with the circulation of those leaflets,
and investigations continue. We have teams on the ground that have been working here for a
long time, and we are collecting more intelligence in real-time,”

Fred Matiangi said.

“The GSU officers are not here for any particular aggression but to demonstrate that we are ready to rise up to any challenge that may come up. We are also going to increase surveillance and patrol in the areas,”

the CS reiterated.

In addition, a multi-agency command centre has been established in Nakuru to provide 24/7 surveillance and prompt response should the need arise.

He added that eight suspects had been arrested in connection with the circulating leaflets. Notably, the security boss dismissed claims that the leaflets were a project by employees in the office of the president.

Speaking in Nyeri, UDA running mate Rigathi Gachagua insisted that the Interior CS and PS were using chiefs to campaign for Azimio candidate Raila Odinga.

He called on the administrators to stick to their job descriptions, adding that they should use the financial incentives allegedly offered to them to improve the welfare of their wives.

Kihika, Tabitha Karanja absconds DP Ruto’s Rally

UDA gubernatorial candidate for Nakuru County Susan Kihika and her Senate counterpart Tabitha Karanja missed out on Deputy President William Ruto’s rally due to mobility challenges.

Speaking in Salgaa on Monday, August 1, Ruto explained that he was to campaign alongside Kihika and Karanja, the two experienced logistical challenges after their chopper was grounded.

He added that the was forced to change his itinerary to avoid cancelling the stop over altogether.

“I was to come along with her. We were scheduled to meet in Kipchororo but unfortunately, her helicopter was grounded because of bad weather. Tabitha was to tag along with her,” the DP stated

However, he went on to urge residents to campaign for Kihika alongside the billionaire businesswoman and Liz Chelule – who is running for Woman Representative.

The UDA flagbearer reiterated his call for the six-piece voting in the county from the Member of County Assembly (MCA) to the President in the August 9 General Election.

Ruto, who was on a tour of the Rift Valley counties held campaigns in Eldoret, Eldama Ravine, and Kabarnet, where he made a plea to Bringo Senator Gideon Moi to support him.

He claimed that Gideon had a political debt to pay to the people of the Rift Valley region who backed his father, Kenya’s second president Daniel Arap Moi.

“We have no problem with our brother Gideon Moi. When your father needed us to stand with him, we stood did and now it is your turn to stand with us.

“It is your turn to stand with your brother William Ruto, and William Cheptumo to be the Senator of Baringo county,” the Presidential candidate noted.

Meanwhile, Kenya Kwanza principals condemned the KANU party leader for siding with archrival and Azimio flagbearer Raila Odinga, whom they termed their enemy.

Despite being among the frontrunners to become Odinga’s running mate and a Cabinet position in the Azimio government, Moi opted to defend his Baringo seat on the ballot.
