Police have launched a manhunt for Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa for allegedly shooting his opponent’s aide.

Speaking to the press, Bungoma County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti stated that the lawmaker was involved in a shooting incident that left one person dead.

A police report indicated that trouble started when DAP-Kenya party candidate Brian Khaemba visited the Chebukwabi polling station to witness the counting of votes.

He arrived at the polling station with his aide and driver and when he entered the polling station, he met the the incumbent MP for the Kimilili constituency.

After monitoring the exercise Khaemba is said to have opted to leave the station but police claimed that Barasa followed him in the company of 4 unidentified men and ordered Khaemba and his team not to leave.

However, Khaemba’s driver Joshua Nasokho defied the order and started the engine and as he was about to exit the polling station, the MP allegedly opened fire and shot Khaemba’s aide Brian Olunga.

“Hon. Didmus Barasa withdrew a pistol and aimed at Mr Khaemba’s aide namely Brian Olunga and shot him on the forehead where profusely bled,”

the police report read.

Olunga was rushed to Kimilili sub-county hospital where he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

Kimiti called upon members of the public to provide any information that will lead to the arrest of the Member of Parliament.
